THE DIOCESE OF DAR-ES-SALAAM
This diocese was established in 1963. It occupies an area of 18,000 sq km. It covers the Dar es Salaam and Coast regions. It is centred on the most westernised part of Tanzania, the city of Dar es Salaam. Although not officially the capital, that attribute is held by Dodoma, Dar es Salaam is very much the cultural and business capital of the country. St Albans Church became the Cathedral Church of the diocese on 11th July 2004.
The diocese already runs programmes in development work agriculture, health and education. It plans to establish a Savings & Credit scheme (SACCOS) at Parish, Rural Deanery, Archdeaconary and Diocesan levels. It also intends to establish Mtoni Job Opportunity and Vocational Training Centre.
